The 40-foot High Cube container is a specialised intermodal transport unit, designed to maximise loading volume. Although its length and width are identical to those of a standard 40-foot container, its height is increased to 2.90 metres (9 feet 6 inches). This design choice results in a cubic capacity of approximately 76.4 m³, which provides about 10% more space than standard containers.
The container is made of COR-TEN steel and is built to withstand the harsh conditions of maritime transport and long-term outdoor storage. The floor is typically made of marine plywood, treated to resist moisture and pests.
